Mrs. Margery Wheeler Brown, 99, of Atlanta passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013. The youngest child of John Thomas Lee Wheeler and Rachel Cornelia Rushin Wheeler, Margery was born in Thomas County, GA. Following graduation from Thomasville High School, she attended business school in Washington, D. C. before returning to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University. Margery’s strong faith in God and the love of her family were the guiding principles of her life. She was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church where she taught kindergarten for 23 years. Margery has been described as a “Great Lady” who gave generously through her volunteer work and the many lives she touched with her kindness. For over 20 years Margery volunteered for the Center for Positive Aging (Formerly Downtown Atlanta Senior Services-DASS) at North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Her adventurous spirit was evidenced in her travels throughout North America and Europe, first with her family and later with friends. But perhaps her favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends sharing life stories and giving kind words of advice and support when they needed it most. Her kind, faith-filled, loving, and generous spirit will not be forgotten. Predeceased in death by her husband Jesse Carlton Brown and all of her siblings, she is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (John) Spotts of Atlanta and Connie (Edward) Murphy of Cumming, GA; grandchildren: Scott (Monica) Holliman of Buford, GA; Ellen Spotts (Armistead) Whitney of Atlanta, GA; Julie Holliman (Clif) Sawyer of Alexandria, VA; Amy Spotts (James) Hamilton of Suwanee, GA; 11 great -grandchildren and an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends who considered her their “other Mother”. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17 at 11:30 AM, at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel, 1020 Spring Street, Atlanta, GA with interment following at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway NW, Sandy Springs, GA. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 AM at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel.
