Margie Ann Kinney, 90, went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2024. She was born Margie Ann McAlhany on November 10, 1933, in Augusta, Georgia, where she lived until moving to the Atlanta area (Doraville) in 1972. Margie met her husband, Harold Kinney, when he was stationed at Fort Gordon in 1955. They were married on July 8, 1956, and enjoyed 56 years of wedded bliss until his passing on June 12, 2013. Together they raised 3 sons and at her passing she had 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way). Her family was her pride and joy.
Margie was the consummate homemaker and hostess, always willing to open her home to guests, whether for an hour or for weeks at a time. She made everyone feel welcome and “at home.”
Margie was a faithful member of Central Christian Church in Augusta and, subsequently, a long-time member of Brookhaven Christian Church in Atlanta. She sang in the choir and was a soprano soloist for both churches. She was also very active in the CWF (Christian Women’s Fellowship) and was always “on call” for any event that needed to be hosted or coordinated at the church.
Margie is survived by 3 sons: James Michael “Mike” Kinney (Caroline), Charles L. Kinney (Debbie), and David H. Kinney (Anne); 7 grandchildren: Tara Thompson (Lance), Steven Kinney (Gabby), Kevin Kinney (Cassie), Amanda Pruitt (David), Elizabeth Kinney, Laura Kinney, and Travis Kinney (Rebecca); 11 great grandchildren; niece Kelly Luquer (Luke); and “like-a-sister” cousin Janice Jones. She is preceded in death by father: James Louie McAlhany, mother: Lillie Bell Andrews McAlhany - both from Augusta, and husband: Harold Harlston Kinney from High Point, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27th at 4:00 PM at Brookhaven Christian Church, 4500 Peachtree Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA with a visitation time to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to “Brookhaven Christian Church / Mission Angeles.”
