May 18, 1922 - June 30, 2011
Margie Jane Dupree McWhirter went to be with her Lord Jesus on June 30, 2011, at the age of 89 in Camas, WA, where she has lived for the past three and a half years. She was born in Cordele, GA and was the last survivor of 14 siblings. Her father was John Howard Dupree, and her mother was Annie Iola Culpepper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dilmus McWhirter, to whom she was married for almost 60 years. Together they raised their family in Atlanta, GA. During WWII she served as a clerk with the Army Air Corps and was a faithful, loving homemaker.
Margie is survived by her two sons, Bevan (his wife Joyce) and Kim (his wife, Debra) McWhirter; her three grandchildren, Jacob McWhirter, Brooke McWhirter Davis, and Kristin McWhirter; and her three great-grandons, Joel, Zachary, and Levi Davis. Her greatest delight on this earth was in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was a dedicated and faithful follower of Jesus Christ and long-standing member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. Her family is proud to honor her for the extraordinary faith and love she exemplified as a wife, mother and grandmother. Her dedication, guidance, and love for us created a close and loving family that will miss her greatly, but we anticipate our reunion with her in heaven. Thank you for your legacy of faith and love.
An intimate memorial service was held for the Washington State family at the Northwest Baptist Center on Sunday, July 3. She will be buried in Atlanta, GA beside her husband. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, July 9, 1:00 p.m., for visitation and 2:00 for the memorial service, at H.M.Patterson Spring Hill Chapel, 1020 Spring Street, Atlanta, GA 30309
