Maria G. Butler, or “Lola”, as she was known by family and friends, was born December 7th, 1941 in Galzignano, Italy. She moved to Paris, France when she was 18 where she met the love of her life, late husband, Hugh D. Butler, Jr. In 1968, Lola and Hugh moved to the Garden Hills area of Atlanta and started their family. Lola was a language aficionado, who spoke multiple foreign languages and passionately taught many students over the years. She had a magnetic personality and an unforgettable and endearing Italian accent. Lola was an amazing cook and enjoyed entertaining and “holding court”. She loved being surrounded by people and was happiest in a beautiful garden or at her home in Italy. Lola is survived by daughter, Angela Butler Phillips and son-in-law, Jason Phillips; daughter Christine Butler and son-in-law Charlie Gray; sister Wally Rocca, Brother Antonino Toninello and her beloved granddaughter Camilla Phillips. Funeral services will be held May 24th at 2:00 pm at the Cathedral of Christ the King with a graveside to service to follow at Arlington cemetery.
