Marian Poston Jones, 76, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, after fighting a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father Autice Milburn (Red) Poston Sr and her mother Nellie Clifford Poston. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Benjamin Francis Jones Jr, her son Brent Carpenter Jones, and her three grandchildren, Camryn, Carlee, and Carson Jones, as well as her brothers Milburn (Marion) and Bill (Liz) Poston.
She was born in Atlanta on July 12th, 1949, and soon afterward the family relocated to Smyrna, where her parents had a successful real estate business. She attended Campbell High School, where she was president of the Pep Club and was voted Miss CHS by her classmates. After graduating, she went on to receive her BBA in Marketing from Georgia State University. While in college she was active in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, which is where she met Ben. Married December 2nd, 1972, she moved back to Atlanta to start a family. Brent was born in 1977 and a few years later she began helping her mother work with the books at her brother’s construction company, a job she would end up retiring from nearly 30 years later.
She became active at the Church at Wieuca soon after she started attending and made many lifelong friends. Whether it was WMU in the early years, antiquing every month, or the knitting group in later years, she made friends and memories that she treasured until the end.
Having always been artistic and creative, she took up rubber stamping in the late 90’s, and excelled at that, like so many things that she did. She found joy in creating pictures and cards that she would share with friends and family, and there was nothing that made you feel as special as receiving one of her handmade birthday cards.
In later years, she loved going cruising with Ben, seeing the wonders of the world. Together they went on 28 different cruises, starting with Alaska, and eventually working their way through the Panama Canal, multiple trips to the Bahamas, and finally cruising around Europe and the British Isles. Every trip they took was well documented in multiple emails per trip, giving everyone regular updates on the day’s adventures and the new people they met each night at dinner. She had the type of personality that no matter where she went, she would have friends by the end of the day.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2025 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of the Church at Wieuca. A reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church at Wieuca.
