

Marie Anne Durkee, a beloved lifelong resident of Buckhead, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 21, 1956, Marie had the joy of celebrating her 68 birthday surrounded by her cherished friends and family.
Marie was the heart of her family, known for her unwavering care and devotion. She lovingly tended to her parents in their later years and was a dedicated aunt to her seven nieces and nephews, as well as eleven great-nieces and great-nephews. Marie had a remarkable memory for birthdays and special occasions, always sending thoughtful cards accompanied by a lottery ticket.
Her education journey took her through Christ the King Elementary School, St. Pius X Catholic High School, and Georgia Southern University, where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity. Marie’s professional life was marked by over 25 years of dedicated service at Horton Instrument Company, working alongside Reece Horton. She was also a devoted member of Christ the King Cathedral.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Wendell Earle Durkee and Rollande Dallaire Durkee. She leaves behind her sister, Lulu Brock (Mark) of Lookout Mountain, GA; her brother, Bruce Durkee of Atlanta; her former sister-in-law, Julie Durkee of Atlanta; and her many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Marie’s kindness, generosity, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King at 10.00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 with a reception to follow in Kenny Hall. A private burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson and Son - Oglethorpe funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be given to the Cathedral of Christ the King or a charity of your choice.
