She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leon Reis; her daughter, Debra Reis; and her parents, Stanley Pereira and Georgina DeSilva Pereira.
Marie was a devoted mother to her three children: the late Debra Reis, Julian Reis, and Michelle Reis Alcobia. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Maryann Reis Ahmad, Samantha Matthews, Katrina George, Nicole Reis Thompson, and Joshua Bolin, and a cherished great-grandmother to Sophia Ann Ahmad, who brought her endless joy in her final years. She also held a special place in the hearts of her daughter-in-law, Shanti Reis, and her son-in-law, Joao Paulo Alcobia, as well as her grandchildren-in-law, Saif Ahmad, Cyril Matthews, Aaron Thompson, and her former son-in-law, Scott Bolin.
Marie lived a beautiful and meaningful life, one defined not by what she gathered for herself, but by everything she gave to others. She found joy in traveling, especially to her ancestral homeland of Madeira, Portugal, and treasured visits with family across Canada, England, New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Guyana. No matter the distance, she made every visit feel like home. Her warmth extended beyond her family through her many years of dedicated volunteer service at the Malachi Storehouse in Dunwoody, Georgia, and her contributions as a member of the Altar Society at the Church of the Ascension in New Amsterdam.
She was known for her generous spirit, her love of cooking and baking, and her constant desire to care for others before herself. Marie had a well-known sweet tooth and could never pass by a bakery without stopping. Among her favorite simple pleasures were jelly and crackers and a good slice of cake — small joys that, in her hands, always felt like love.
Marie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness touched many lives, including dear friends Maritza and Monica De Souza, who will forever remember her warmth and compassion. To know Marie was to be cared for by her, and to be cared for by her was to feel truly loved.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all those whose lives she touched, carried forward in every act of kindness she inspired.
