Martha Davis

Martha Elizabeth Brown Davis, 92, passed away Monday, February 14th, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Atlanta. She had been lovingly cared for by them for the past 11 years, with the help of Lauren LePlatte and Guardian Hospice in her later days. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky, on September 9th, 1918, to Lena and John F. Brown. She was the sixth of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was educated in Kentucky where she met and married Arthur L. Davis. They had two children, Arthur L. Davis, Jr. (deceased), and Martha Jane Davis Rodgers. In 1970, Mrs. Davis moved to St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida, where she resided until 2001, when she moved to Atlanta. While in Florida she was an active member of Van Dyke United Methodist Church. She worked daily in the church Nursery and Day Care Center, and also for the Greeting Committee. Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Martha Jane Davis Rodgers and son-in-law Richard K. Rodgers of Atlanta, and former daughter-in-law Marilyn Davis of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was grandmother of four: Elizabeth Ann Davis and Ian Arthur Davis of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Alexandra (Sasha) Davis Fancher of Atlanta, and Colin Edward Davis of Delray Beach, Florida. She was grandmother-in-law to Jeffrey Fancher of Atlanta and Kelli Davis of Delray Beach, Florida, and great- grandmother to Maxwell (4) and Benjamin (2) Fancher of Atlanta. She was aunt of Virginia Rae Smith of Cookeville, Tennessee, and of Jeffrey Brown and James Brown of Columbus, Ohio, Marianne Myers Dutton of Panama City, Florida; George Donald Myers of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Larry Myers of St. Cloud, Florida. She was great-aunt of several more nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements and cremation were handled by H.M. Patterson and Son Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Final interment is planned for Columbus, Ohio.
