

Life-long Atlanta Resident
Mrs. Martha Josephine Craven Scott passed away early in the evening of October 24, 2011 after complications from a long illness. She was 84 years old.
Mrs. Scott was born on July 8, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia and spent her entire life bearing witness to the city’s dramatic growth and progress. She was a graduate of Washington Seminary, a predecessor to the Westminster Schools, and attended Auburn University before graduating from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. In college she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority
Mrs. Scott was a talented individual who was an avid landscape painter and competitive bridge player, participating in and winning many bridge championships over the years. She was a long-time member of the DAR and Pine Forest Garden Club where she held leadership roles during her tenure in each. Mrs. Scott was also an active member of Northwest Presbyterian Church and a long-time member of Cherokee Town and Country Club where she enjoyed playing bridge, tennis and golf as well socializing with her many friends.
Mrs. Scott is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Legh R. Scott, Jr. Survivors include her children, Neal C. Scott, his wife Debra, David J. Scott, Martha S. Swain, her husband, Bruce, grandchildren, Margaret A. Swain, William W. Swain and Josephine N. Swain, all of Atlanta, and two sisters in law, Mrs. Marcelle Craven of Atlanta and Mrs. Margaret S. Cathey of LaGrange, Georgia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill, 1020 Spring Street, 30309. A private burial at be at Westview Cemetery.
