

Mary Arnold Binns of Atlanta died Friday, July 11, 2015. She was born September 11, 1933 to Marie McLean Binns and Carlton Binns at Georgia Baptist Hospital. Miss Binns lived in Atlanta all of her life. She attended Tenth Street School and graduated from Henry Grady High School. Miss Binns graduated from Mercer University in Macon, completed her graduate work at Emory University and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Educators. She was a lifelong member of Second – Ponce de Leon Baptist Church where she served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, member of the Women’s Missionary Union, Historical Committee and numerous other activities. Miss Binns was an active member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and Garden Hills Resident Association. She enjoyed her condo at St. Simons, travel, bridge, her supper club and book club.
Mary served as an English teacher and administrator at Northside High School. She took an active part on the annual staff and many other activities. Mary later served as Director of Alumnae Affairs at Mercer University until her retirement.
She is survived by her brother, John Binns, and cousin, Mrs. Laura Cheek, both of Atlanta.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 2 o’clock at Second – Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
