Mary Elizabeth Flatley passed away in Atlanta on November 4, 2018 after a brief illness. Mary was born on September 20, 1965, in Queens, NY. She grew up on Long Island in Baldwin, New York and attended Coolidge Elementary School and Baldwin Junior High School, prior to graduating from Baldwin High School in June 1983. Following high school, Mary attended Duke University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Political Science in May, 1987.
She had a long and successful career in the investment securities industry. She began her career in operations at Thomson McKinnon and then became a sales assistant at Dean Witter in 1990. She spent 15 years with The Robinson Humphrey Company in Atlanta as a Director, working on the Equity Syndicate Team and the Soft Dollar Department. Most recently, she was Vice President, Advisory Services at Triad Advisors. Mary also served as a board member of the Georgia Securities Association from 2005 and served as president in 2013 .
Mary’s most unique quality was her ability to connect with others. She had a charismatic personality and the wonderful gift to bring people together. She was able to help people find new careers, new homes, and new business and personal relationships. Her love for conversation, her caring nature, and her easy laugh and smile made all feel welcome and at ease.
Devoted to Duke Blue Devils basketball , Georgia Bulldogs football and the band U2, Mary always believed in total enthusiasm and it was contagious.
Mary waited patiently for the love of her life, Bob Ingram. They were married at All-Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta on May 3, 2003. They shared 17 years of companionship and joy together. They were indeed best friends and giving to all who touched their lives.
Mary was the definition of “good”. Whatever your relationship with her, she was always full of life and shared goodness with you. Mary LIVED every moment; she was never on the sidelines; she was always passionate, full of energy and enthusiasm--always fully engaged in everything she did, and you really felt this when you spent time with her. Her friends and family will cherish the many memories made while enjoying life with this good and special woman.
Mary is survived by her husband Bob, her brothers John, Bob and Chris, her sisters in-laws Christine and Elizabeth and her nephews Jack, Tommy, Luke , Quinn and Connor and her niece Kate. She is predeceased by her mother, Joan Flatley, whom she loved with all her heart.
Funeral services will take place at All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta on November 12th at 11 a.m. The family will be in the Library at 9:30 a.m. A reception at Whitehall Tavern, 2391 Peachtree Road 30305 will follow the service.
