Mary Jean Thurman Davis

Mrs. Mary Jean Thurman Davis, 94, of Atlanta, died Monday, August 1, 2016. Mrs. Davis was born in Atlanta on March 17, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Harris Jackson Thurman and Lizzie Green Roberts Thurman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley Metzska Davis and her grandson, Timothy Dale Desselle. Mrs. Davis graduated from Girls High School and attended Georgia State in Atlanta. She was employed with Firestone during World War II, Rich's and the Internal Revenue Service for several years. Mrs. Davis was a long standing member of Briarlake Baptist Church. She was best known as a loving mother and true friend to many and for her love of sewing and creating beautiful clothing for many friends and family.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole (Dale) Desselle of Palmetto, Florida and Marilyn (Ken) Anderson of Buford, GA; her granddaughter, Amanda Harrington of Tomah, WI; and her step-grandsons, Scott, Tim, Ken and Daniel Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Friday, August 5, at Patterson's Spring Hill Funeral Home with interment immediately following afterwards at Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11am to 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Jean's honor may be made to The Medical Center Foundation, 2510 Limestone Pkwy., Ste. 115, Gainesville, GA 30501.
