Joanne was born on July 26, 1947 to the late Charles and Ina Jones.
Ms. Jones graduated from Grady High School in 1965 with honors and was a proud member of the National Honor Society. In 1969, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia State University, also with high academic honors. Joanne had a notable and successful career in information systems at SunTrust Bank and BellSouth, where she worked for more than three decades.
Joanne was highly active in her church and in various philanthropic projects throughout her community. She was a member of the Golden Group board of directors at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta, where she also enjoyed singing in the church choir. Joanne volunteered at the Atlanta Greek Festival as many years as she could and was a lifetime member of the Daughters of Penelope, where she held several offices, including president. She was known as a very generous woman who donated to numerous organizations regularly.
Her family will remember her as an avid reader, a math whiz, a doer of crossword puzzles and an aunt whose nieces and nephews loved spending time with.
Joanne Jones is survived by her brother, Dr. Nicholas Jones (Beverly) of Atlanta; sisters, Betty Forlidas of Charlotte, NC, and Anne Pappadakis (Anthony) of Dunwoody, GA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family of Ms. Jones will receive guests from 12:30 – 1:00 PM in the narthex of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation on Saturday, September 11, 2021 with the funeral service to follow.
A graveside service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery (1173 Cascade Circle SW, Atlanta, GA 30311) following the church service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made on behalf of Joanne Jones to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation (2500 Clairmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329) or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
