Mauricio was born in Ibagué, Colombia on May 18, 1966, to Miguel Antonio Medina and Ana Maria Vallejo de Medina. He went to school at colegio Berchmans in Cali, Colombia. In September 1998, Mauricio moved to the United States of America and became a United States Citizen in Atlanta, GA on June 18, 2002. Mauricio married Christie Corologos on October 10, 2010, at sunset on Lido Beach in Sarasota, FL.
Mauricio graduated with a degree in Social Communication and Journalism from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, with a master’s in political studies from the Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia. In his native Colombia, he held positions such as International and Sunday Editor, writer, columnist, and chief of correspondents around the world for top newspapers, and specialized magazines, including La Prensa, El País, and Revista Dinero.
Mauricio was also an ATA-Certified Translator from English into Spanish and was accredited by the Atlanta Association of Interpreters and Translators (AAIT). He held a Graduate Certification in Translation from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish awarded by the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University and a master’s in Medical and Health Translation from Universidad Jaume I in Valencia Spain.
In February of 2010 he moved to Washington DC to work at NIH as a Public Affairs Specialist at the National Cancer Institute and in 2015 he moved to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute as a Lead Communications Specialist. He moved back to Atlanta as a Health Communications Specialist at the CDC in 2016.
Even with his long list of professional accomplishments, Mauricio’s first priority was his family. He was a thoughtful and caring partner and father, who created and fostered a warm and loving home. He enjoyed spending time with his parents, his sister’s family and his in-laws.
Mauricio loved traveling, reading, keeping up with current events and pop culture, and being a go to guy for technology.
Mauricio was preceded in death by his father Miguel Antonio Medina, his uncle Fernando Vallejo and his aunt Amparo Vallejo de Ocampo.
Mauricio is survived by his wife Christie Medina; his children Mitchell and Samantha Medina; his mother Ana Maria Vallejo de Medina of Cali, Colombia; his sister Maria Claudia (Alexander) Palacios and their children (Maygan, Alex Jr, Ana and Laura Palacios); his in-laws Paul and Sharon Corologos, Aunt Paula Riggie, sister-in law Lisa Corologos (Dennis Tallagnon) and their child (Tags Tallagnon).

Mauricio was truly happy and found solace with his personal and professional achievements. He knew he had made a difference in so many important ways to his family, his career and his friendships. He lived a vibrant, meaningful and honorable life. We will miss him so very much.
