
Willie Ray Jenkins, Mayor of Doraville, Georgia died on February 2, 2011. Mayor Jenkins is survived by Lou Ella B. Jenkins, his wife of 56 years, by a son, Douglas Ray Jenkins, by two daughters, Beverley E. Evans and Karen Jenkins Young, by five grandchildren, Emily Marie Evans, Lance Corporal Philip A. Evans, Brandy Leigh Jenkins, Willie Douglas Jenkins, Jessica Laine Jenkins, one great grandchild, Ryan Burns, by his sister, Inez Warren and by Aunts, and by nephews and nieces. Mayor Jenkins was a true native of Doraville. He attended the old Doraville primary school and graduated from Chamblee High School. Mayor Jenkins joined the Navy and served two tours of duty during the Korean War including combat missions. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Mayor Jenkins was active in his community throughout his life. He served as a Boy Scout Leader, was a member of the North DeKalb Lions Club, was active in North DeKalb youth sports programs, was a member of the 714 Eagles Club, served on the Building Committee of Northwoods Baptist Church. He attended Northwoods Methodist Church. Mayor Jenkins served the City of Doraville as a Councilman from 1974 to 2003. He was a Past President of the DeKalb Municipal Association and was active in the Georgia Municipal Association, where he served for a time as the 4th District President. He was elected Mayor of Doraville in 2003 and again 2007 and was serving the City in his second term at the time of his death. Funeral Services will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill Chapel on Monday, February 7 at 11:00 followed by a 2:30 burial at the Georgia National Veterans Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 and on Sunday, February 6th from 2:00 to 5:00.
