My husband and I were so, so, so sorry to hear that Michael had passed away. We knew him during our days in Knoxville more than 20 years ago through a dear friend (also now deceased), and wanted to send our condolences to his wife and son and the rest of the Brink family. Sorry to hear about this. He and my brother in law, Gregg Harper were good friends and that is how I remember him. Just saw him last year at Gregg's funeral. I guess those two are comparing notes on how things should run upstairs! God bless the family!

My children and I will never forget how kind and gracious Michael was to us in our time of need. My husband was out of town (golfing in Louisiana) and I took our two pets to be "fixed". Well, the cat Lilly did not need to be spayed, because she was actually a male. (I think the Powells got mixed up when the Matthews and Witmers got a kitten from the litter.) So "Leonard" was neutered and all went well. However our beautiful chocolate lab that we all loved so much, "Cappy", short for Cappuccino, did not fare as well. He was neutered and was very woozy from anesthesia.  I placed him on his dog bed in the garage while I went to pick up my God-daughter. When I drove back into the driveway the drunk dog had wandered into the wrong bay and you can imagine the rest. The kids (all four of mine and the God-daughter) are screaming bloody murder. We ran up the street to the Vet, they were closed but we realized that it was already too late for Cappy. Allison said, "let's go to the Brink's". We drove in their driveway with a recently expired dog in our SUV. Michael was so kind and sweet. He graciously and so respectfully, said," I will take care of him". He picked up our beloved dog and placed him in his car and said, "You have nothing to worry about". What an incrediably kind gesture. Later as I sent a "thank you" note with a $100 in the envelope. Deb imediately sent Tucker back to the house with the money, refusing to accept what I know he must have paid for Cappy's funeral. I loved him for that kindness. He could have lectured me in front of five kids why it was so foolish of me to do what I had done....but he chose to give me GRACE! He was my HERO that moment and forever I will remember him that way!

I have been forever blessed by knowing Michael. He was a true gentleman who always had a smile and a kind word ready for all he met. I greatly enjoyed working with him personally and professionally. Michael made an impact in the world that will not be forgotten.  As much as Michael accomplished professionally, however, I know he was most proud of his family. I am so sad to learn of this news.  Michael and I were part of Leadership Buckhead nearly two decades ago and went on to be the two leaders of the group's retreat the following year.

I am stunned to say the least that Michael has passed. He was so filled with life that this news just takes me aback. Michael got me to put on my first pair of running shoes in my 20s, and we ran the NYC Marathon together - one of the joys of my life. I also was there the day he and Deb brought Nicholas home from the hospital - a very blessed day.

Michael was a wonderful friend, mentor, and colleague. He will be missed but never forgotten. Michael shared with me how he always wrote to Nicholas from the road, a practice that I started immediately after our children were born. I am incredibly grateful for his friendship.

I had the great pleasure of getting to know Michael through his work with the Southeastern Family Office Forum.  In the all too short time I was privileged to work with him, I was deeply impressed by not only his dedication to serving the families he worked with with the utmost integrity, but even more so by his willingness to share his struggles with cancer and the faith that kept him upbeat and positive throughout the process.

I am deeply saddened by Michael's death.  I was privileged to share office space with him for several years.  The energy and integrity he brought to his work was unsurpassed.  His first priority, however, was his family.  He was very proud of you.
