She was born on March 18, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Raphael and Ermelinda Bevilacqua. She graduated from Linden-McKinley High School in Columbus in 1947 and then worked for Motorist Mutual Insurance Company for sixteen years.
Norma met her husband Dr. Charles L. Hatheway at a dance at the Ohio State University when he was working on his PHD in Microbiology. They were married in 1960 at St. James the Less Catholic Church in Columbus. They lived in Evanston, IL and East Lansing, MI before relocating to Atlanta, GA in 1975 where he accepted a job at the CDC and eventually became a world-renowned expert on food-borne illnesses & botulism.
They were dedicated members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and were involved in multiple ministries. Norma was known for her love of family, faith, travel and enjoyed dancing. She visited all 50 U.S. States and several foreign countries. Later in life she enjoyed activities at the senior center at Mason Mill and was a member of NORC and NTO.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Froug and her husband Gary and their children, Jessica and Daniel Froug; also her son, Mark Hatheway and his children, Abigail Hall, Joseph and Charleigh Hatheway. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; her parents; her sister, Tina Bevilacqua, and her brother, Ralph Bevilacqua.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA from 6:00-8:00 PM with praying of the rosary at 7:30 PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 2855 Briarcliff Rd. Atlanta, GA 30329. The family will greet visitors at 10:30 AM and a reception will follow the Mass at the church. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park at the conclusion of the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norma’s honor to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Birthright of Atlanta.
