

Palmer LeRoy Ferguson, age 85, of Sandy Springs, died peacefully Friday, December 16, 2011 at Hospice Atlanta. Mr. Ferguson was born in Decatur, GA on March 10, 1926 and was a lifelong Atlanta-area resident. He was the youngest of the eight children of Robert Palmer Lamar Ferguson and Nell Landrum Ferguson, attended Decatur High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and was a graduate of Southern Polytechnic Institute. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps and later in the Naval Reserve. In his early career, Mr. Ferguson owned his own construction and interiors company, and retired as Senior Executive VP of Abrams Fixture Corp. He was a long-time member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where he was a former member and president of the Friendship Class, was currently a member of the Timothy Class, and previously served on the church’s administrative board, the building and long-range planning committees, and as a trustee of the church. He was also a high school football official for 37 years, a founding member of the Cabinetmakers Association, and was active for many years in the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Ferguson was predeceased by his first wife, Helena, in 2006, and by six of his siblings. He is survived by his wife, June Wilkerson Ferguson; his daughter, Emory Pattillo (Patti) Truslow and her husband, John; his son, Palmer L. (Scot) Ferguson, Jr. and his wife, Karon; three grandchildren, John W. Truslow, III (Allison), Mark M. Truslow (Tracy), and Palmer L. (Whit) Ferguson, III (Nicole); five great-grandchildren, Merrie Frances Truslow, Anna Elizabeth Truslow, Robin Truslow, Max Truslow and Luke Truslow; stepson, Chris Wilkerson, his wife, Susan, and their two sons, Cullen and Patrick; his sister, Stella Gehrt (Warren) of Dover, DE; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Monday, December 19, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Sons – Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd. in Brookhaven. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305. Following a reception at the church, interment will be in the family plot at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Mr. Ferguson’s memory.
