

Partenia Alberto Herrera, born April 18, 1930, in Caridad, Cavite City, Philippines, to Policarpo and Policarpa Alberto, passed away at home with loving family at her side on February 5, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 95.
Interested in nursing, Partenia graduated from the University of the Philippines as a nurse in 1951, and in 1955 she traveled to the United States and worked in hospitals in New York, New Jersey, and Montana as well as in Canada. She met Jose Herrera, married in 1960, settled in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised 2 daughters. Returning to nursing, she worked in an OB-Gyn office at Research Hospital until her retirement in 1994. A devout lifelong Catholic, she made pilgrimages to Fatima and Lourdes with her husband Jose, and later journeyed to Medjugorje. She was a frequent volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels and was devoted to spending time with and caring for family.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Partenia was preceded in death by her husband Jose Herrera and is survived by daughter Joji Vaughn and husband Richard, by daughter Mary Merrill and husband Randy; and by her grandchildren: Alyssa Vaughn and husband Will, Katie Vaughn, Cole Merrill, and Jett Merrill. She is also survived by her brother Romeo Alberto and wife Sachiko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 18, 2026 at 10:00am at Christ the King Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Interment will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
