

Peter Addis Chavannes, 70, of Atlanta, GA died May 24, 2012 in a car accident. Peter was born November 6, 1941 in Kingston, Jamaica to Paul Alexander Chavannes and Zillah Louise Lawton. He was one of seven children, Elizabeth Pauline (Betty) Bonnick, Molly Ann, Vidal John, Michael Louis, Paul, and Philip Oliver. He was a striker on Jamaica’s national team and represented the country in the 1963 Pan American Games and the 1966 Commonwealth Games. He left Jamaica to pursue his education in the states, where he attended the University of Wisconsin – Stout and later Georgia State University. Peter was a lifelong educator who was devoted to the many students he met throughout Georgia and Jamaica. He is survived by his wife Deborah Lynn Chavannes; children Peter A. and Janice (Pyatt) Chavannes, Jr., Gena(Chavannes) & Rob Schaefer, Danielle (Chavannes) & Jason Gray, Brandon Chavannes, stepson Troy & Gina Denomy; grandchildren Deven Chavannes, Merrick Denomy, Charles Gray, Luke Denomy, Lylah Schaefer, Lily Chavannes, and Eden Schaefer. Funeral services for Mr. Chavannes will be held Friday, 1PM at All Saints Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests support for establishing a scholarship fund in Peter’s name at his alma mater, St. George’s College in Jamaica.
