Rebecca (Becky) Teague Hunter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed peacefully at her home in Lenbrook on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Becky was born on August 2, 1940, in Buckhead, Atlanta, to Dr. Nathan T. and Martha (Hart) Teague. From an early age, she was known for her kindness, intelligence, grace, and quiet thoughtfulness. Qualities that would define her life and leave a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She carried herself with warmth and dignity, offering care and consideration to others in ways both big and small.
She attended R.L. Hope Grammar School and North Fulton High School, graduating in 1958, and went on to Vanderbilt University, where she studied mathematics. During those years, she formed deep and enduring friendships with her Tri Delta sorority sisters, relationships that remained a source of joy and connection throughout her life.
After college, Becky returned to Atlanta and began her career with AT&T in the computer department. With both curiosity and courage, she embraced an opportunity to transfer to New York City, where she worked in computer operations for over a year. She later returned home to Atlanta, where she built a long and successful career with IBM.
Becky met the love of her life, Bob, at the Colonial Homes apartments. Their first date to the Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA, marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership that would span 58 devoted years. They were married on March 2, 1968, and built a life together filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
They made their home in Sandy Springs, Georgia, where they spent 47 happy years raising their two sons, Robert Lee Hunter, IV (Kristen) and Thomas Teague Hunter (Beth). Becky found immense joy in her role as “BeBe” to Emmie, Robert, and Ansley, cherishing every moment spent with them and delighting in their lives.
Becky retired from IBM in 1995, and soon after, she and Bob discovered Lake Burton—a place that would become deeply woven into the fabric of their lives. What began with a small cabin grew into a lasting love for the lake, its beauty, and the close-knit community of Rabun County. Lake Burton was truly Becky’s happy place, where she felt most at peace and most herself.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; her loving sons and their families; her cherished grandchildren; and her sister, Sally Bracey of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Becky’s memory to the Lake Burton Civic Association Scholarship Fund, supporting Rabun County students in their pursuit of higher education, an enduring reflection of Becky’s generous spirit.
