

Renee Roberts Maurin, 66, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. She was born December 31, 1947 in Gulfport, MS and raised in Wiggins, MS. Daughter of an educator, Renee graduated from Southern Mississippi University where she earned Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in business education. She was a professor in the college of business at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA for seventeen years. She also worked as a director of marketing and public relations for American Medical International Community Hospital and as executive director of the Tangipahoa Parish United Way, both in Hammond, LA. Renee left her professional career to become a homemaker and delighted in raising her daughter, Catherine. In 2010, Renee moved to Atlanta to be near her daughter and two beloved granddaughters, Elizabeth and Margaret. In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Renee was in her lifetime an avid traveler, art enthusiast, gourmet cook, home decorator and a big fan of college football. She will always be remembered for her impeccable sense of style. In later years, she loved to read to her grandchildren, play board games with them, and enjoy the talented productions at the Center for Puppetry Arts. Survivors include her daughter Catherine Maurin Flynn, son-in-law Jonah Allen Flynn, and granddaughters Elizabeth Grier Flynn and Margaret Lane Flynn, all of Atlanta, and uncle Obra Quave of Hattiesburg, MS. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Frank McNamee at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 11 at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30305. Renee is predeceased by her parents Joyce Quave and Edwin Jack Roberts and her remains will be placed in Wiggins, MS where they are buried. The Flynn family will receive friends in their home following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to the schools Renee’s granddaughters attend--The Lovett School, 4075 Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA 30327 and The Atlanta Speech School, 3160 Northside Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30327--or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Cathedral of Christ the King Conference, 2699 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30305.
