Kevin was born in New York City, NY on Feb 18,1943. He lived his early years in the suburbs of New York City playing pick-up baseball, making movies and frequenting music clubs in the City. Kevin’s passion for baseball, movies and music transcended teams, genres and time. He loved sharing his diverse library of titles and trivia with family and friends. Those who knew him will be forever grateful for his unselfish hobby of videotaping memorable events, capturing happier times that will comfort and lift us now in his absence.
After graduating from Iona Prep in New Rochelle, NY, he went on to earn a B.A. at Virginia Military Institute, serve his country in Vietnam in the army, and graduated with a Juris Doctor from William and Mary law school.
Kevin spent most of his business career in the field of advertising and marketing, beginning with Dancer, Fitzgerald Sample in NYC and moving to Atlanta, Ga to work for Cargill Wilson Acree and other ad agencies & packaged goods companies such as Scripto and Coca-Cola. Kevin reluctantly retired in 2006 after successfully guiding his eponymous marketing and promotions agency for over 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah MacCarthy, of Mineral Bluff, his sons Brian MacCarthy of Atlanta, and Matthew MacCarthy (Kristen) of Athens GA, and their mother, Kandy MacCarthy of Atlanta; as well as his sister, Carole (Pritamo) Kentala of Seattle, WA, and brother Steven MacCarthy (Margaret) of Los Angeles, CA and their two sons, Evan and Kelly; and his mother-in-law Ann Burrell Kennedy (Don). Kevin was a kind and honorable man, with a sense of humor as big as his stature. He will be deeply missed by his wife and family, his friends and his loyal dogs Jinx, Dot and Kip; and the 13 chickens who trailed behind him wherever he went on their farm in the north Georgia mountains.
A private memorial service will be held at some time in the near future.
Kevin was a gentle man who respected all living things and rescued many stray animals. Memorial tributes and donations may be made in Kevin’s honor to the Humane Society of Blue Ridge.
