Russell was born June 14, 1976 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Robert Carr Churchill III and Charlotte Ann Thomas. He was the youngest of four children and one of three sons.
As a child, Russell spent several years in Crewe, Virginia, but would always claim to be a North Carolina boy after the family moved to Greensboro, North Carolina when he was in middle school. He graduated from Ragsdale High School and later from Ferrum College in Virginia with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting.
Russell was a free spirit who loved to be in nature, the mountains especially. While living in Asheville, he would spend hours hiking the numerous trails located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. He valued nature’s beauty and found an unexplainable peace in the silence, removed from an otherwise hectic world.
He was an avid classic rock fan, particularly fond of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. A truly gifted individual, he was a self-taught guitarist who could play any song simply by hearing it. He was an inspiration to his niece, who picked up a guitar after seeing him play, and will forever be remembered by his daughter for the wonderful father-daughter jam sessions they had together.
Russell is survived by his daughter Evelyn Churchill, whom he shared with former wife Courtney Churchill, mother Charlotte Churchill, brothers Robert Churchill IV (Jennifer), Samuel Churchill (Catherine), sister Mary Blankenship (Brian), niece Barclay Ann Blankenship, nephew Ellis Blankenship and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding him in death was his father Robert Churchill III.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. They will be holding a private intimate service at a later time. In lieu of flowers and cards, donations to the American Heart Association in Russell’s name would be greatly appreciated.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hmpattersonOglethorpe.com for the Churchill family.
