I just learned of Sam's death and would like to share this story:

In 2004 when my firm was doing the new interiors for the Goodman Theater VIP Lounge we found the perfect Chandelier and sconces for the project at Hampstead Lighting. I called and spoke with Sam and understanding my delima of deadlines vs shipment agreed (taking only my word) to ship the lighting before payment was sent. We sent the payment and got all of our lighting on time. Never before or since has anyone been so gracious to me. I will always remember his kindness and am truly sorry for your loss.

I really enjoyed the brief time I knew Sam and was hoping to have more conversations with him. He always left me with food for though after speaking with Sam. Heartfelt condolences for the family and many friends of Sam. I know he will be missed.

Dear Amo Dawood, Samar, Thanaa, Nedaa & Tagreed,

It is with deep regret and sadness to hear of the passing of one of our oldest family friends. Our parent's close friendship transpired to their children, leading me to get to know Salim during our teenage time. We eventually became friends and colleagues at the same university in Baghdad, where we used to meet from time to time to talk about life, our future, love, problems, etc. I still remember the day his dad bought him his first car, the Egyptian Fiat (Naser).

We both got married in the mid 70's, around the time we both left Iraq given the circumstances. As the years went by taking us into our respective destinies, staying in close contact became rather difficult -- something I now regret. Nonetheless, we always received his updates from his father, sisters, or some of my family members who kept in touch.

It was an incredibly joyous moment when we finally got together two years ago here in Abu Dhabi for a very pleasant lunch, as we reminisced over our shared memories in Iraq.

While Salim has very sadly passed away, I can only pray to God to rest his soul in peace. May he provide him with mercy and bring patience to his loved ones.

Dear Salman Family, Layla and I didn't know Salim very well but had the absolute pleasure of spending some quality time with him in Portugal a couple of years ago. He truly exemplified a larger-than-life, generous and sincere person. Smile glued permanently on his face. The good ones always go first.

Salim, RIP - Layla and Manhal
