

Mr. Samuel Noble Roberts of Atlanta died February 15, 2012. Mr. Roberts, born on January 26, 1918 was a life long resident of Atlanta and the descendent of prominent families in South and North Carolina and Alabama. His great grandfather, Samuel Noble, whose name he bore, founded the city of Anniston, Alabama, in 1872. His father was the late Samuel Noble Roberts of Anniston and his mother, the former Frances Boykin of Camden, South Carolina, both deceased. Mr. Roberts was a Mechanical Engineering graduate of the Georgia School of Technology in 1938 where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He was founder and President of Roberts Engineering Corporation where he still sat at his desk until his death. He was active in several engineering societies and a Registered Professional Engineer. He was a member of The Cathedral of St. Philip for many years and joined the First Presbyterian Church ten years ago. He was also a member of The Society of Colonial Wars, the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati for direct descendants of the officers of General George Washington's army, the Buckhead Men's Garden Club, The Atlanta Historical Society, and the Piedmont Driving Club. For many years he was an active member in the Atlanta Chapter, Episcopal Prayer Book Society. On the event of his eightieth birthday, one of his employees stated that Mr. Roberts was the most honest person he had ever encountered. His wife of 66 years, Mary Lockhart Stanton Roberts, died in 2011. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Marion Willis Stafford, the former Deedee Roberts, son-in-law, Dr. Stafford, three grandchildren, William Legare Stanton Stafford and his wife, Cortney, Mary Hurt Stafford and Samuel Noble Roberts Stafford and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Virginia Stafford and Elizabeth Nolan Stafford and two brothers, Edward Ennis Graham Roberts and Blanding deSaussure Roberts of Atlanta. His brothers, John Boykin Roberts and James Keith Roberts predeceased him. The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson Spring Hill Chapel Saturday, February 18th from 1:00pm to 2:30pm.
