Just heard about Dr B passing from Scott. I remember his great come-backs,as I would greet him as "Oldtimer" and he would reply...Actually thats a complement around here...I also went to OSU and would remind him of that..He told me ,His name was often mispronounced by the Hospital operators on Code Alerts...Loved hearing his stories about sailing, and told him there are 3 things you will own only own once in your life..A converible, a pool and a boat...He said that was true except for the Boats....Loved his ability to ask for help and to lend a hand..Iworked with him at VA,Emory, and CWLong. I was sad to hear of Dr. Bowles' passing.  He was a great teacher and mentor to me during my training.  He always had a great sense of humor and was kind to everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

It was a pleasure knowing and working with Dr. Bowles! An excellent teacher in all aspects. He was nice to all with a very caring and lovable attitude.

 Stephen,  was a very supportive colleague and friend, following my transfer to Crawford Long Hospital and this expanded into external activities with our mutual love of sailing and things aquatic. I have fond memories of sailing in the Tampa Bay races and particularly of him perching on the stern of the boat to 'stop it from sinking', after being  broadsided, while, 'we had the right of way!' (no photo available).

 He was a gifted teacher who was always concerned for everyone in the room including the patient. Humanity is poorer for his passing.

Dr. Bowles was an excellent teacher and a person with a wonderful sense of humor. He will have stories told about him for many years and his legacy will continue with all he helped train. Our prayers are with his family.


I work for Dr. Bowles  numerous years at Crawford Long Hospital ...It really broke my heart when I heard  the news of his passing.  To the family you are in my prayer's for strength. What a wonderful Man he was an a pleasure to work with.  IDELL AND MARK BURROW

I met Dr. Bowles in 1977 while I was studying Anesthesiology at Crawford Long Hospital. He was always a man of good humor, even through his personal suffering. I knew him to be a kind and considerate mentor in all those ensuing years. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace my friend.

Growing up I knew him as Dr. Bowles.  I was amazed by his life as anesthesiologist, family man, rappeller, spelunker, sailor and cruiser.  He loved being everywhere, whether it was climbing up toward the sky, on land soothing patients, on the water, or exploring underground caves.  With his deep medical knowledge, Dr. Bowles comforted my mom when my grandfather died, letting her know he didn't suffer.  He was empathetic and thoughtful like that.  He took care of a lovely family and his best and most loved attributes will live through them as he looks down and watches over them from heaven here forward.  God bless you as we miss you, Dr. Bowles.

Dr. Bowles was a great person and educator. He was a very kind man! It was a pleasure working with him. God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
