

He was born in Charleston, West Virginia in July of 1940.
Steve Bowles graduated from The Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He then went on to receive his Medicinae Doctor degree from The Medical College of Virginia in June of 1966. He married Sara Penington Bowles in June of 1966, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 2016.
Steve worked for over 40 years as an Anesthesiologist with the United States Navy Medical Corps, the Atlanta VA Medical Center and Crawford W. Long Hospital. In addition, he was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University. He retired in 2011.
His greatest passion was advancing the field of medicine. He loved mentoring new doctors and helping them become experts in the field of Anesthesiology. His interests included mountain climbing, white water kayaking, sailing, and wood turning.
Many were the unwitting victims of his legendary practical jokes. His unyielding love of life and love of family and friends will be forever missed.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Penington Bowles; daughter Tina; sons Carey and Craig (son-in-law David); grandson Ethan; brother Mark; sister Marta; six nephews and a niece.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 8th at HM Patterson and Son - Oglethorpe at 4550 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319 from 6-8 pm. Service starts at 6:00pm and reception after the service until 8:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers we have asked for donations be given to the Atlanta Lymphoma Society.
