Susan completed two degrees from the University of New Orleans, holding a B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences. A dedicated scientist, Susan worked more than 30 years for the Centers for Disease Control, establishing herself as a nationally recognized subject matter expert in the field of food borne diseases. Susan was once honored at a White House reception for her efforts in creating a food borne disease tracking system called PulseNet for the CDC.
For all her professional accolades, it only took a brief conversation with Susan to learn that her impressive career was not her primary interest. Susan was a deeply committed follower of Jesus Christ and a devoted servant of the body of Christ, serving at Chapel Woods Presbyterian, InTown Community Church, and ChristChurch Atlanta (PCA) across more than three decades. Susan was a faithful mentor, providing a listening ear and wise counsel to countless women across the years. God’s grace was most visible in Susan in the way she loved her best friend and Husband, Roger and the way they together encouraged so many with their hospitality.
A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend, wife, and mother, Susan will be missed by many.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, James Price Brown, sister Melinda Marquez, and brother George P. Brown.
Susan is survived by her mother, Ruth Christin Brown, aunt Lavater Buck, sister-in-law Carolyn Brown, and nephews Jack Brown and Robbie Marquez, Micah Wilson (Rebecca), Christopher Wilson (Jazmyne), Jeffery Wilson (Jennifer), Niece Amber Wilson, and nine great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many adoring friends and family members including Sarah Wilson (Billy), Amanda Crosby (Adam), Tina Stroud (Marty), Julia Tarrant (Wayne), Susan and Chip Evans, and a host of Godchildren.
