Tammy Roybal McCastle, a beloved wife, mother and friend, passed peacefully on Tuesday September 1st following a courageous battle with ALS. She was comfortable at home in Morningside, Atlanta with her family by her side.
Tammy was born in Nashville, TN and moved to Atlanta with her mother Kitty, father Joseph and brother Marty when she was one year old. She grew up in an Atlanta suburb called Dunwoody and quickly began to build friendships she treasured for life, which became a common theme for Tammy wherever she went. She was an excellent student, swimmer and water skier.
Next was University of Georgia, where she became an accomplished photographer for the Red & Black, spent a semester out west in Aspen, and made even more meaningful friendships along the way.
After college, Tammy headed back to Atlanta and started a career in TV sales – perfect for her extroverted, magnetic personality. She quickly excelled in her career and, once again, met a group of lifelong friends and her husband, Greg.
Then began the parenthood chapter of Tammy’s life, where she thrived and truly found her purpose. Tammy & Greg’s daughters, Claire and Caroline, were born in 1992 & 1994 respectively in Charlotte, NC. Tammy was, by all accounts, an unbelievable mother.
Eventually Tammy, Greg, Claire & Caroline settled in Larchmont, NY and put down roots for over 20 years. From the beginning, Tammy established even more relationships with friends who became family over the years. From Girl Scout leader to Deacon at Larchmont Avenue Church to tennis champ at the Larchmont Yacht Club, Tammy was a treasured member of the Larchmont community.
Finally, after their daughters graduated college, Tammy & Greg found their way back to Atlanta to be closer to family. They settled in Morningside, where Tammy was an avid golf and pickleball player at Ansley Golf Club.
Throughout Tammy’s whole life, her gift was building genuine connections and making people feel seen, heard and loved. She was a true empath until the very end. Her memory will live on in her family and many treasured friends she made through all chapters of her life. She will be missed and loved forever.
A service honoring Tammy will be held at Morningside Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, September 9th at 11am.
A reception will follow immediately after at Ansley Golf Club at 12pm.
