Vic was born in Syracuse, New York on May 5, 1933, to Victor and Dorothy Hanson. He graduated from Manlius School, Manlius, N.Y., 1951 and Princeton University in 1955. He obtained his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. After internship he joined the Navy as a flight surgeon serving with the 3rd Marine Airwing, 1961-64. From 1962-63 he performed active duty with the 1st Marine Airwing, Far East, Viet Nam and Laos. From 1963-1964 he was Group Medical Officer, 3rd Marine Airwing in Santa Anna California. Following military service he completed a Residency in General Surgery at U of P, 1961-1964; private practice in Syracuse, New York 1969-80; Surgeon at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wilmington, DE 1980-87; and private practice in Atlanta, GA.
Academic Appointments included Instructor in the Department of Surgery at U of P; Clinical Instructor of Surgery, Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY; Assistant Professor of Surgery, Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY; Assistant Professor of Surgery, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA 1980-1990. He was a member of many local and national medical societies and associations. He wrote more than 30 research publications and lectured on many medical research topics.
After moving to Atlanta, he served as a General Surgeon at Northside Hospital. In addition, he was on staff at Piedmont and West Paces Hospitals. In 1985, he married Mary Nadijcka, who survives him. No memorial service is planned.
