

Virginia Hutto Rickborn passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013. Virginia Elizabeth Hutto was born on May 25, 1925 in Fort Motte, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Edgar and Elizabeth Hutto. Virginia's father worked for Southern Railway and the family lived in several different towns in South Carolina before finally settling in St. George. Virginia was a graduate of Furman University in Greenville, SC. Although she did not major in music, she had a beautiful soprano voice, and was a member of Furman's Serenaders choral group, under the direction of Dr. DuPre Rhame. Virginia also studied at Juilliard School of Music in New York in the summer of 1944. She taught elementary school until she married Dorsett (Rick) Rickborn on August 19, 1949. They were married for 62 years until Rick's death on March 23, 2012.Virginia was a talented seamstress and made most of her children's clothes. Her other talents and hobbies included knitting, doll collecting, home decorating, china painting, and flower arranging. Virginia sang in church choirs ,and as a soloist, at Morningside Baptist Church in Atlanta and later at Oak Grove Methodist in Decatur. She also sang at weddings when requested by friends and family members. Virginia was proud of her South Carolina heritage and was a member and Past President of the South Carolina Club of Atlanta. She was a true Southern lady - gracious, kind and genteel. Virginia was an animal lover and always ended up being the primary caretaker of the family pets, which over the years included cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, parakeets, and rabbits. She was primarily a cat lover, as evidenced by her large collection of all things cat - pillows, mugs, figurines, and numerous cat books. Virginia is survived by her four children; Beth Hardage of Alpharetta, Reed (Brenda) Rickborn of Greenwood, SC, Stacy(Eddie) Knight of Suwanee, and Chris (Kelly) Rickborn of Coral Gables, Florida; three grandchildren; Kim Hardage of Alpharetta, 1st Lt. Greg Hardage of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Megan Rickborn of Coral Gables; brother Edgar (Mary) Hutto of Accomac, Virginia; nieces Becky Hutto, Chris Bruening, Carol Vincent, Glenna McGahey, and Helene Law. Virginia is also survived by her beloved kitties - Mitt and BC.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill. The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made in her name to: South Carolina club of Atlanta Scholarship fund at the University of South Carolina School of Nursing.
