

Virginia Elizabeth Schwatel, 96, died January 19, 2015 at Budd Terrace Wesley Woods in Atlanta, Georgia. Virginia was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 4, 1918, to William Phillip Schwatel and Peggy “Bessie” Slaby Schwatel. She was raised by her beloved Uncle Frank Slaby from age 10. She worked as a music teacher in New Mexico and Colorado before moving to Georgia to teach music. Virginia played the violin, keyboard, piano, clarinet and other wind instruments. Virginia enjoyed teaching music, attending church, shopping, traveling, dining out and was an avid sports fan. Baseball was her favorite sport, followed by football. She also had a love for the visual arts. She enjoyed spending many years with her best friends Lois and Betty at their cabin on Lake Burton. She had two dogs she cherished named Julia and Jazmo. Ms. Schwatel was extremely charitable with many causes, including Berea College, University of Colorado Music Department Scholarship Fund and Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta, where she was a faithful member and pianist. She was predeceased by her lifelong friends Lois Ruth Peacock and Mary Elizabeth Kendrick. A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers that supported Virginia through the years. Virginia will be remembered as a very gracious and refined lady. Services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 2 o’clock at Northside Drive Baptist Church, 3100 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30305. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway, NW, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328.
