William, “Billy”, Degnats born to William and Virginia Degnats passed away suddenly on January 18, 2018, due to complications from a blood clot. Loving Father, Husband, Son, and teacher, Billy was best known for his talents as a drummer. Playing drums with musicians and groups like: Ray Charles, Diahann Carroll, The Tommy Dorsey Band, and Ringling Brothers Circus, Billy’s dedication to his craft and his ability to pass his knowledge on will never be forgotten.

Billy’s memory lives on through his parents, William and Catherine Degnats, his wife Suzanne Degnats, and his two sons: Torin and Alec Degnats.

For those wishing to pay their respects, a service honoring the life of Billy Degnats will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel on Sunday, January 28th at 3:00p.m with a reception to follow. In addition to flowers you can donate to Operation Smile in Billy’s name.

I fondly remember taking lessons with Billy throughout elementary and middle school. He was patient, kind, and thorough in his teaching. I enjoyed the exercises he assigned me, and to this day I include him among teachers who have truly had my back and who have shown genuine interest in my growth and success. Billy's love of music will be remembered by his students through the confidence and knowledge he instilled in all of us.

Billy and I met when I moved to Felton in sixth grade. He was a great musician and he was my dance partner in many high school dances. It was so good to see him at our 40th class reunion and visit with past classmates at my home gathering and at the school reunion. He was a gentle man and I have many happy memories. We were all so sorry he couldn't join us for our 50th reunion but he was in our prayers. This is a sad time for all of us but our prayers are with his family.

I have known Billy since First Grade and we graduated from Felton High in 1966. He wasn't well enough to travel to our 50th Reunion.
So the last time I saw him was our 40th Reunion.
His dad and my dad were great friends growing up and graduated from Felton High in 1942. Billy sent me the best letter after I lost my Dad in 2012.

I met Billy thru his son Alec, my son in law. He was one of the very rare people that when he spoke to you it was as if you were the most important person in the world. I will miss those times and the gentle hugs he gave every time we saw each other.

So sorry to hear this. I met Billy back in 65 at the old Milford Theater. He was playing for the J&M Revue. So talented, last saw him in Rehoboth Beach at the 2007 All Stars concert. God Bless his survivors and friends.

Billy was one of the first people that I met when I moved to Atlanta back in 1972.
During the 4 years that I resided in the Atlanta area, we got to work together quite often on a number of engagements (including our time on the Fairmont Hotel house band).
Billy was an integral part of the "Every Wednesday" rehearsal band that was a creative force in town (1973-1974).
Billy was always of good spirit, good cheer, and a valued friend. A musician of the highest quality.

Suzanne and family, So sorry to learn of Billy's passing. He was a very close friend to my wife and I for over fifty years. We first knew him when he was still in school and was just starting his musical journey. What a great musician and friend. He holds a special place in our hearts.

Suzanne, My prayers and thoughts will be with you and your family at this time of mourning the sudden loss of Bill. I am so sad that this loss comes at a time where Bill and I had started a new dialog since our 50th class reunion of Felton HS, Delaware. We were two primary percussionists together in HS band. We had many fond memories of those days - it was such a shock seeing the obit on Facebook today. We were on a path of having been reconnected - it leaves a void in my heart. May the Lord guide you through this time of sorrow.
