

William Samuel Fowler (Sam), 80, passed away on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 in the peace and comfort of his home in Dunwoody, Georgia. He was born September 9th, 1935 in Sandersville, Georgia to his adoring parents William Thomas Fowler (Bill) and Sybil Hawkins Fowler. The family made Milledgeville, Georgia their home and Sam attended Georgia Military College serving on the GMC Rifle Team and later served 2 years in the Army National Guard and Reserve.
He later moved to Atlanta to attend Southern Polytechnic Institute in Chamblee and launched a lifelong career in the building and construction materials industry working for Badham Chemical Company, Golian Steel, Southeastern Foam, Johns Manville, and
W. R. Grace.
In 1987, Sam launched his own business, Fowler Waterproofing Supply, with a business partner, Mr. Brent Kolts. Skipping any ideas of retirement, Sam continued to work daily at the business which is currently celebrating its 29th anniversary. Sam was respected and well liked by customers and competitors alike and had a positive influence on many and became an icon in the industry. His absence will be felt by his customers and employees as he was well loved and will be truly missed.
Sam enjoyed the outdoors and liked to stay busy with many projects at work and at home. He loved any yard project and was active in his Kingsley neighborhood lake committee for many years. He enjoyed hunting on the family farm and was actively working the land as a pulp farm while enhancing the 5 acre lake there. He enjoyed salt water boating and fishing and fulfilled his dream of owning a second home on the Georgia coast where he spent many years entertaining friends and family.
In 1975 Sam accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Wieuca Road Baptist Church where he was a member for many years and served as an usher. Most recently Sam attended and enjoyed the services at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta under the teaching of Dr. Charles Stanly.
Sam is preceded in death by both his loving parents. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Fowler Smith, two daughters, Karen Fowler Scheil (spouse Mark Scheil) and Danielle Charlene Fowler, and two grandchildren, Nicholas Alexander Scheil and Juliana Maria Scheil.
The family will host a Memorial Service at Patterson Funeral Home-Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, on Monday, February 15th at 2:00 as well as a Milledgeville Memorial Service at Williams Funeral Home, 1670 N. Jefferson Street on Saturday February 20th at 2:00 with a reception following at the family home at 240 N. Jefferson Street, Milledgeville.
All are invited.
In his hometown of Milledgeville, Sam will be placed to rest alongside his beloved parents “Daddy Bill” and “Bede”, grandparents and aunt at Memory Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sam’s most beloved philanthropy of which he was an alumnus and scholarship funder, Georgia Military College, Class of 1953, 201 E. Greene Street, Milledgeville, Georgia 31061.
