On December 12, 1968, Yanick journeyed to Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where she attended Clara Barton High School and graduated in 1972. It was there that she discovered her calling in nursing. In 1970, she reunited with her future husband, Harry LeRoy, who claimed he was traveling to see Apollo 13, but was truly making the journey to see his bride-to-be. They were married on September 30, 1972, and together built a life rooted in love and family. Yanick and Harry were blessed with three children: Rose (born in 1980), Harrys (born in 1982), and Fabrizzio (born in 1986).
Before fully pursuing nursing, Yanick began her professional career at CIBC in Midtown Manhattan, beginning shortly after high school and continuing until 1992. She then followed her lifelong passion and entered the nursing profession. She began her career at Long Island Care Center in Flushing, Queens, and later relocated around the corner to the newly built William Beneson Pavilion, where she faithfully served for over 25 years. As a nurse, Yanick was known for her quiet strength, compassion, and dedication to caring for others. After spending a lifetime tending to those in need, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2019, a condition that ultimately forced her into early retirement and required her to be cared for in her later years.
Yanick was a quiet and simple person who found her greatest joy in her family. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and took immense pride in them. She is survived by her three children: Rose, Harrys (Nicole), and Fabrizzio (Melanie); and her seven beloved grandchildren: Carsline, Hally, Tiana, Tyler, Luca, Genevieve, and Emilia. She also leaves behind her loving sisters, Claire (Jean) and Josette (Carlo), along with many extended family members and friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Harry, and stepchildren, Carole and Yves.
Yanick will be remembered as a humble, gentle soul whose life was defined by service, love, and devotion. She was a caring nurse who spent her life giving to others, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a cherished sister. Her legacy lives on through the family she loved so dearly.
