Zhiying Huang, 94, passed away on June 3, 2025. She is survived by her daughter, Mindy Lau (Eric); four grandchildren: Kevin Lau, Theresa Lau, Henry Pilgrim, and Cassie Pilgrim; and son-in-law, John Pilgrim (Zhuohui). She was predeceased by her husband of over 68 years, Hongjing Yang, and by her oldest daughter, Zhuohui Yang Pilgrim.
She was born on July 3, 1930, in Guangzhou, China. Blessed with a long life, she witnessed and survived many historic and perilous events, including the Japanese invasion of China, the communist takeover of China, and China’s Cultural Revolution during which she and her husband were arrested and consigned to work farms for seven years for the sole offense of having been educated. Happier times followed when she and her husband were able to immigrate to the United States in 1993 and be reunited with their daughter, Zhuohui.
Her career was as a nurse. But the real mark and measure of her life was as homemaker: as caring wife, mother, and especially as grandmother. Even in her later years, though barely able to do for herself, she spared no effort to care for her family.
She became a Christian at a time when the Chinese communist government actively persecuted Christians. But she was brave in her faith, and ever faithful to the end. In her last days, the weight and wear of her 94 years produced no shortage of painful tears. But on June 3, 2025, her troubles ended, and now she is pain-free---all the tears having been wiped away---finally at peace with the Lord.
