Alvin Carlos Payne

Funeral services for Mr. Payne will be held at 2pm Friday,September 26, 2025 at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla, Alabama. Rev. Larry Ballard will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Forrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12pm until time of service at the funeral home. There will be no graveside service.

Born April 23, 1938, Carlos served his country with courage in the United States Army. He worked 35 years at Republic Steel/Gulf State Steel, then worked several more years at Nucor Steel before retiring at the age of 70. He enjoyed golfing with friends, Alabama football, gardening and yard work. In later years he enjoyed going to Jack’s with family and friends every morning. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Rainbow City.

Carlos was preceded in death by Glenda Burgett Payne, his beloved wife of 53 years, his parents Clydie and Willie Payne, brothers and sisters: Evelyn, Gertrude, Othell, Travis, Morris and Earl.

Carlos is survived by his two sons: Kerry (Julie), Kevin (Beth), grandchildren: Chris Payne, Rebekah Payne, Taylor (Lauren) Payne, Brittany (Ben) Simmons, great grandchildren: Jase, Wilson, Jack, Avalyn, Olive, Charlotte, his brother in law Frank “DD” Burgett and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Frank Burgett, Chris Payne, Taylor Payne, Ben Simmons, Buster Winningham and Chris Thompson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be special friend Gary “Bubba” Downey, caregivers Katie, Brenda, Selena, Glenda, Sheryl, and the staff at Cherokee County Health and Rehab Memory Care Unit.
