On a visit to Alabama, Bill met a little gal named Carolyn Blackmon and he decided to make Alabama his home. He worked as a machinist for Service Auto Parts until his retirement in 1999. He was a dedicated Christian and longtime member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also a proud Marine. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.B. and Viva Whisenant, his brothers, Ray Bob Coke (Dot), Myrl (Peggy) and his sister, Jo (Tommy).
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his children, Tim (Debbie) Whisenant and Beverly (Ricky) Thomason; grandchildren, Courtney (David) Couch, Shannon (Andy) Harrison and Nick Thomason; great grandchildren, Mason and Hadley Couch and Kaylee and Kinzlee Harrison; sister in law, Clara Whisenant and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
After his retirement, he enjoyed mowing yards and piddling in his workshop where he made many one of a kind items and basically recreated his old home place and included farm tools like the ones he used as a young boy. He could turn nothing into something like an ordinary tin can into a beautiful flower. He was many things to many people but he is best described as living a life of service to God and others.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Fore, Keith Collier, Bobby Huff, Scott Greene, Jeff Bailey, Michael Bailey, Steve Minyard, Ken McBurnett, Thomas Boyd, and Darren Bailey.
Special thanks to the 7th Floor nurses and staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 6 until 8p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
