

Billy Harold Long, 81, of Southside passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 after a brief illness. Funeral will be at Morgan Funeral Home on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 2p.m. with Minister Brooks Boyd and David Marker officiating. Visitation will be from 12p.m. until 2p.m. prior to the service.
Billy was born on 6/20/1937, the 7th son of Chalmus and Ruby Long of Walnut Grove. He served in the US Air Force from 1953-1957. He worked at Republic Steel in the Electrical Dept for 41 years. He was married to his beloved wife Joy Owens for 57 years.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Aaron, Bobby, Theron, Max, Gene, and Weyman Long.
Billy is survived by his wife Joy; children, Sheila (David) Marker, Pam (Tony) Lee, and Michael Long; grandchildren Josh and Zach Marker, Jon, Ryan, and Emily Thompson, Austin and Carson Long; great grandchildren, Zachary and Killian Marker and Landon Howard; sister, Martha Lowe; brothers, Selton (Betty) Long and Gerald (Teresa) Long.
He was an avid sportsman and loved Alabama football. His greatest accomplishment and the most important thing in his life was that he was a faithful Christian. He truly loved his family and church family. He attended Sansom Ave/Fairview Rd Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for 40 years.
Pallbearers will be Zach Marker, Jon and Ryan Thompson, Austin and Carson Long, and Tony Lee.
