Dale attended Emma Sansom High School and was a member of the Class of 1971. A talented baseball player, he was part of a team that won the World Series during his senior year. His love and talent for the game earned him the nickname "The Hammer," a name that stayed with him throughout his life.
Anyone who knew Dale knew that he was truly one of a kind. He was the life of the party, loved being the center of attention, and could always be counted on for a laugh. A natural comedian and entertainer, Dale enjoyed karaoke, worked as a radio DJ, and even entertained others as his unforgettable Elvis impersonator, "Chunky Love." He had a gift for making people laugh and making any gathering a little livelier simply by being there.
Dale also had a special love for animals, particularly his dogs. Bulldogs held an especially dear place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy D. Watts and Hazel Chapman Watts, and nephew Taylor "Tank" Watts.
Dale is survived by his love and companion of more than 25 years, Willow Dean Luther; his four siblings, Shelia (James) Cannon, Mauldie Darlene Watts, (Brenda Portwood) Troy Watts, Kay Watts, Sabrina Humberd, Bob Watts, and Rodney Allen; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss his humor, larger-than-life personality, and the laughter he brought into their lives.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Morgan Funeral Chapel, followed by burial at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Leann Phillips, Alyssa Davis, Jimmy Snow, Frank Rasberry, Danny Dale, Gary Honeycutt, as well as the CCU nurses and staff of Riverview Regional Medical Center, for the care and kindness shown to Dale and his family.
