Diane Wood Bruce, age 68, of Piedmont, Alabama, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020, at UAB Hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Gadsden, Alabama, from 2:00-3:00pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm. Pastor John Reynolds will officiate. Morgan Chapel and Crematory in charge of arrangements.
Diane was born on December 11, 1951. She was a graduate of Etowah High School Class of 1970. She became a Registered Nurse in 1992, and has been an employee of Gadsden Regional Medical Center for 31 years. She has worked in many areas of the hospital over the years, including CCU and currently a Critical Care Charge Nurse in MICU.
Diane loved her family more than she loved herself. She was a loving mother, Nana, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was an Auburn tiger fan. She also has a special love for her pets – Minnie-Moo, Harley, and Lil’Bit. For the past six weeks she has fought a battle against pancreatic cancer.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents, James E. (Billy) and Eunice Moungey Wood, and her grandparents, Luke and Alma Wood and John D. and Alma Moungey. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, David Bruce; her daughter, Stephanie Herman (Nathan Taylor) and her son, Bart Bruce (Kim); grandchildren, Taylor Herman, Dustin Herman, Brylee Bruce, Kaylen Filmore, Haley Filmore, and Ily Norris; sisters, Carolyn Walker (Eddie) and Cheryl Ayres (Pat); niece, Dee Wilson (Drew) and nephews, Lee Walker (Paige), Kevin Walker (Kim), Drew Ayres (Cameron); great-niece, Savannah Walker; and great-nephews, Stuart Walker and Brooks Wilson; special cousin, Nancy Gilbert; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to express special thanks to Nancy Gilbert, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center and UAB Palliative Care Unit.
