She was born and raised in DeKalb County, Alabama. She attended Geraldine Grammar and High school and was a valedictorian of both graduating classes. (Her inspirational sixth grade address has been lost to the ages.)
She enrolled and graduated from Jacksonville State University. Upon finishing, Diane went to work at Redstone Arsenal where she met and married David Reeves. They were married for 58 years and moved from town to town, Houston Texas, Lisse Holland, St. Croix USVI, Plantation Florida, Frederick Md., Brunswick Ga., Baltimore Md., Heidelberg Germany, and Washington DC.
While they were moving, she traveled extensively, visiting 73 countries and all 50 states. A few of her favorite trips were cruising the Nile. Even riding Henry, an ornery, spitting, farting camel. --Touring the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat. Climbing over the gnarled trees which have overtaken the ruins. – Volksmarching on a cold winter’s night under the Christmas lights of Paris.
She loved Sand Mountain, Geraldine schools, her classmates, her lifelong friend Carolyn her grandparents, playing and watching tennis, sugar cane grinding at Cattle Creek Plantation, painters Vermeer and Solomon Van Ruysdael, dogs, giraffes, Carrie’s hair styling, Anna’s pedicures, Mama Effie’s fruit cake cookies, Mama Littlejohn’s fruit cake, collard greens and sausage, Mark’s toasted almonds, lying in bed with her spouse on Sunday morning reading the paper, going to Railroad Daze, Lladro figurines, Decoration Days, reading from “Little Women” to Tennessee Williams’ plays and many other authors.
Toward the end of her journey, she was placed in Hospice care. Nurse, Sarah and Aide, Briana was not only professional but also warm and helpful. Diane loved the company of her sitter, Claudette Jones. Claudette was professional and caring, taking care of Diane’s needs and saw to it that she got her cream of wheat, Winn Dixie cinnamon muffins, Boost, and watching ION T.V. Super Bee pharmacy was always filled with friendly faces and helped keep her medicines in order.
Even with all the wonderful places she visited, her favorite things to do were summer vacations with the Reeves family at Litchfield beach, Sunday family lunches at her sister Donna’s and visits to her sister Jeanie’s and Mama Effie’s homes for the Holidays. Most of all, she loved her granddaughter, Madison.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert Donald Dobbs, and Jean Marie Dobbs; her sister, Patricia Nan Cheaves; and grandparents, Roy and Nevorah Littlejohn.
She is survived by her spouse, David R. Reeves; son, Mark Trezvant Reeves (his wife Gina); and granddaughter, Madison Trinity Reeves; and her sisters, Donna Beth Wade and Jeanie O’Rear (her husband Charles); along with many nieces and nephews.
Diane was a quiet, gracious, charitable, intelligent and loving person. Her journey is complete now that she has arrived at Heaven’s door and into the arms of her savior.
A Celebration of Life may be scheduled in the future.
