
Esther Adams Roach, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away March 13th at Regency Pointe in Rainbow City, Alabama. Born on Easter Sunday, March 24, 1940, in Gilbertown, Alabama, Esther was the daughter of the late Jack Adams and Mary Taylor Adams. From her rural beginnings in Alabama, she grew into a woman of remarkable kindness, unwavering loyalty, and a wonderful sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her.
Esther married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Roach, and together they shared 49 years of devoted partnership. She was a proud mother of three sons and found her greatest joy in her family, especially in the time she spent with her grandchildren, often gathering them for cherished days at the beach. A woman of extraordinary determination and competitive spirit, Esther was an avid tennis player who earned numerous state titles throughout her career on the court. Her athletic accomplishments reflected the same tenacity she carried into every aspect of her life. After courageously overcoming breast cancer, Esther dedicated herself to helping others facing similar battles as a volunteer with the UAB Angel Squad, offering comfort and hope to those in need. Esther was a longtime, devoted member of her church and participated in numerous Bible studies over the years. Her deep and abiding Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life,
guiding her through every season with grace and steadfast trust in the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Roach; her parents; her sister, Pauline Campbell; and her brothers, Jimmy Adams and Hudson Adams. Esther is survived by her sons, Robert Steven Roach (Kelley), Joseph Clark Roach, and Jason Adam Roach. Carrie White, daughter in law of many years. Nana is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Virginia Roach Perry (Christopher), Anna Claire Roach, William Roach, and Emma Roach; her brothers, Ralph Adams (Charlotte), Roy Adams, and Larry Adams (Deborah); and her sister, Frances Stevenson; Leslie Giles, many nieces and nephews, numerous extended family members and dear friends including lifetime friends Gloria and Priscilla.
A celebration of Esther's life will be held at a later date, with interment of ashes at Hopewell Baptist Church in Butler, Alabama, where she will be laid to rest beside Bob.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Karen Griffith, and many thanks to all caregivers, including Enhabit Hospice, Peyton Colegrove; Regency Point, Sharon Lumpkin, Penny Hosch, and Lacey Byrum. The family also wishes to thank special friends Lisa Samples, Rosie Bellew, Judy Fant, Peggy Hilton, Brenda Smith, and Mary Wyatt for their caring love.
