

George was born on July 22, 1931 to Jim and Bessie Steakley.
Visitation will be held from 10am until 11am. September 22, 2020 at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Funeral will follow at 11a.m. with Rev. Harold Adcock officiating. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
George started work in his early years to help his family. He worked at the saw mill, railroad and later joined the United States Army during the Korean War where he received many metals and decorations including a Purple Heart. After the war he married the love of his life, Frances Bates Steakley. He worked at Republic Steel and became a Missionary Baptist Preacher. He was ordained on October 7, 1962. He pastored many churches in Etowah County throughout his life and saw new life come into this world. He lead souls to the Lord, baptized many and then seen many depart from this life. George loved the Lord and his family but also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to the mountains with Frances and their dog, Chico.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his sons, Howard Earl (Annette), Thomas “Butch” and Roger (Dominika) Steakley; grandsons, Jeffery Steakley and Alexander Steakley; along with many other family members whom he loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your place of worship or favorite charity. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of Gadsden Regional Hospital 6th and 8th floor and McGuffeys Rehab.
