
Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday April 19, 2017 at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
Graveside Service with Military honors will be following at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Gerald had a passion for serving his country and community. In 1962 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he received many metals including; The Purple Heart, The National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Metal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Later he retired as Captain from both Orange Beach Police Department and Gadsden Police Department. He was a member of The Tabernacle Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and The Vietnam Veterans Association.
He is preceded in death by his daughter; Tina Patterson, parents; Louise and R.C. Poe, grandparents; Kate and Floyd Haynes, mother and father in law; Johnnie Mae and Bill Studdard.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Patricia “Pat” Studdard Poe,
Children; Kimberly “Kim” (Scottie) Works, Gerri (Mac) MacMillian, and son-in-law; Danny Patterson,
Grandchildren; Jamie (Matt) Adams, SrA Kenneth John Clouse, Cpl Zachary Humphries, Timothy Ryan Humphries, Kalee Humphries, Anna Patterson, Bobbie Townsel, Wendy Patterson, Danny Patterson, Jr.
Brother; James “Jimmy” (Edith) Poe, sisters; Linda Poe, Karen Dodd, Sandy (Eddie) Perman, and Jeanne (David) Bowers.
Brother in laws; Billy Studdard and Gary (Debbie) Studdard,
special cousin; Barbara Walker Clemons and a host of great grandchildren that PawPaw showered with love and also many nieces and nephews that were proud of Uncle Gerald and loved hearing his stories.
Pallbearers will be nephews; Jason Dodd, Josh Dodd, Rayne Dodd, Trey Perman, Tanner Perman, Seth Perman, Shea Hudson, and Houston Harrison.
Honorary Pallbeaers will be grandson; Timothy Ryan Humphries, nephews; Christopher Street, David McClain, (Orange Beach), and formal and current officers of the Gadsden and Orange Beach Police Departments.
Special thanks to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department, and Ivalee and Sand Valley Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
Visitation will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel Tuesday April 16, 2017 from 6 until 8 P.M.
Family will also accept friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 10 until 11 A.M.
