

Helen Marie Jones Swann, 89, died on September 25, 2017, at Regency Manor Personal Care Home in Cumming, Georgia. Mrs. Swann was the daughter of the late Robert and Eather Jones. A native of Steele, Alabama, she lived most of her life in Ashville, Alabama. She was married to the late Gerald C. Swann, Sr.
Mrs. Swann was a graduate of Ashville High School, Jacksonville State University, and the University of Alabama. Her early professional career included staff assistance at Green Cove Springs Naval Base and Gadsden Army Depot, but her passion was education. She was a teacher and assistant principal at Ashville High School and then principal of Steele Elementary/Junior High School. She also taught classes for the University of Alabama, Gadsden Center, as well as GED classes in St. Clair County.
A long-time, active member of First Baptist Church, Ashville, Mrs. Swann taught youth groups, led adult classes, served on committees, and sang in the choir. While living in Montgomery, Alabama, in her later years, she attended First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Martha Chandler Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Swann is survived by her children Susan Little (Ron), Ellen Milam (Terry), Gerald Swann, Jr. (Denise); grandchildren Anne-Marie Haigler (Ashton), Stephanie Coyne (Jesse), Jennifer Milam, Elizabeth Beal (John), Gerald Swann, III (Megan), Laura Helen Swann; and great grandchildren Ethan and Evie Kate Haigler, Annie and Logan Coyne, Davis Swann, and Lucas Beal.
The family will receive guests from 11:30 to 1:00, prior to the funeral service on Thursday, September 28, at Morgan Funeral Chapel, Attalla, Alabama. Funeral service will began at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Deerman’s Chapel, Steele, Alabama.
