Mr. J B Stocks Jr.

Born on December 28, 1954, to the late JB Stocks, Sr. and Louise Stocks, JB was a wondering soul who landed in Attalla, Alabama 30 years ago. He was a 1974 graduate of Ashville High School.

JB was a laid-back man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved camping, especially spending time at “Our Place” in Springville and along the banks of Big Canoe Creek. He had a lifelong passion for welding, a skill he learned from his father, who loved teaching others the trade. One of JB’s favorite stories was building a boat in the family yard alongside his father and brother, Eddie. Much to their delight, the homemade boat actually floated and proved to be seaworthy—a memory they proudly shared for years.

Known as “The Goat Man,” JB had a special love for goats and all animals, especially his faithful dog, Badger. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock and roll and was happiest surrounded by family, friends, and the outdoors.

Above all, JB cherished his family. He shared a special love story with his beloved wife, Ellen, whom he had known since 1969. JB and Ellen were united in marriage and built a life filled with love, companionship, and treasured memories.

He was preceded in death by his parents, JB Stocks, Sr. and Louise Stocks; his wife, Louise Stocks; and his brothers, Brack Stocks and Eddie Stocks.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Ellen Stocks; his daughter, Rachel Russell; his son, Jeremy Brian Stocks; his stepsons, Joseph Gidley (Rose) and Jeremy Gidley; his sisters, Susan Logan of Arab and Marie Stocks Washburn of Alexander City; his brother, Joseph Stocks (Doris) of Gadsden; his sisters-in-law, Kathy Stocks and Joyce Stocks; his beloved grandchildren; his close friends, Marty Schelper, John and Carissa Dietz, David Thomas, and the members of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Russell, Scotty Hill, David Countryman, John Bowlin, Gary DeWeese, and Rev. James Kilgore.

Funeral services will be officiated by Joe Wise and Gerold DeWeese, with David Thomas providing a special musical tribute on the bagpipes.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, with interment to follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
