James Richard Anderson

James Richard Anderson 77 of Altoona passed away February 26, 2021. Funeral Service will be at 2p.m. March 2, 2021 at Altoona First United Methodist Church with Rev. Harvey Beck and Rick Sanders officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be at Altoona Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, March 1, 2021 at Morgan Funeral Chapel from 5 until 7p.m.

Richard Anderson was the proud native of Altoona, Alabama. Richard entered this world on July 26th 1943. He was honored to be Altoona High School Valedictorian of 1961. After graduating high school, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Sanford University in 1966. He worked at various pharmacies throughout northeast Alabama for a number of years until he became the memorable owner of Anderson Pharmacy from 1974-2020. As an independent pharmacist, he served his community well with love, kindness, generosity, and many late-night trips to the pharmacy. It goes without saying that he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, uncle, friend, and avid fisherman. He was a prominent member of Altoona 1st United Methodist Church where he further continued his gift of service. Thank you to all of his loyal customers whom he loved to serve unconditionally.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Anderson; parents, Jimmy and Aubie Anderson.

He is survived by his children, Rickey (Wanda) Anderson, Julie (Rick) Sanders, Kim (Barry) Mason, Jason Anderson; sister, Kay Miller; grandchildren, Matt (Tina) Anderson, Tristan Anderson, John Barnett, Dustin Mason, Devon (Bre) Mason, Cara Anderson, Sayle Anderson, Nicole (Michael) Sanders, Stu (Carley) Sanders; great grandchildren, Brady Anderson, Jacey Anderson, Liam Anderson, Kennedy Mason, Asher Sanders, Austin Sanders.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Matt Anderson, Tristan Anderson, John Barnett, Dustin Mason, Devon Mason, Sayle Anderson.

Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky Nash, Dennis Burton, Harold Burton, Bug Cagle, Bo Cagle, Frank Thomas, Jerry Miller, Richard Samples, and Max Burton,
