

Mr. James Aubrey Denham, former mayor of Attalla, Alabama, passed away on July 16, 2016 at the age of 80.Funeral service will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Tuesday July 19, 2016 at 1 P.M.Bro. Earl Mitchell will officiate.Interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery.Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory directing.Mr. Denham was a native of Tallapoosa County, but a longtime resident of Etowah County- where he proudly called Attalla his hometown. In the early 1950’s he was third baseman for the Boston Braves- his playing experience was later shared as he coached Little League Baseball. During his service in the U.S. Army Reserves he received a Marksman award, and served alongside former Alabama Senator Tom Bevill. Mr. Denham worked as a civil engineer for the Alabama Highway Department for over thirty-two years; during this time he assisted in the construction of more than one hundred bridges across the state. He was also a licensed professional land surveyor since 1978 and the owner/operator of Denham Land Surveyors, LLC. He further improved the field of land surveying when he served on a ten-man committee that created the regulations for policies and procedures for land surveying in the State of Alabama. Mr. Denham was a member of Lions Club International and a member of First Baptist Church of Attalla, he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. Mr. Denham was a former mayor of Attalla and a two-term councilman for the City of Attalla, including fire commissioner and police commissioner. His time with the city garnered him many friends in both the Democratic and Republican parties.Mr. Denham leaves behind;Wife of fifty-nine years, Emma Lee DenhamChildren, Kimberly Kay Huddleston (Thomas)Christopher Scott DenhamGrandchildren; Erica Paige Rowland (Jarrod)Gabriel Evan DenhamBrother, Jimmy DenhamAlong with many nieces and nephews.Those preceding him in death include his siblings, Louise Shaw, Clestine Gill, JL Denham, Hugo Denham, Benny Denham, Jeannette McAlister.The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Thomas Huddleston, Jarrod Rowland, Gabriel Denham, Herbert Lee Fuller, Walt Jones, and Jimmy Denham.Honorary pallbearers, Joe Hereford and Larry Howard.The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. prior to the service in the chapel.
