Following the service, the family will have visitation and refreshments in the catering room. A private burial will be held later at Rocksprings Church in Blountsville, AL with Judy's ancestors.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Alldredge Scott; sons - James L Scott II and wife Tommieann, and Patrick M. Scott and wife Mandy; five grandchildren - Hali, Paige (& Johnny), Zac (& Autumn), Emilee, and Austin; and 5 great grandchildren, Braylen, Abby, Parker, Lawson and Rex.
He leaves to cherish his memory, six of his siblings: Guy Scott & Louise, Betty Harmon, June Stone, Brenda Myers & Roger, Bob Scott, and Michael Scott & Denise. As well as many generations of nieces and nephews. Five of his siblings preceded him in death, Audrey Morton, Lorene Reeves, Wallace (Bus) Scott, Elenor Harris and Sidney Scott, Jr.
He had two very special dedicated employees who became his best friends, Phyllis Polk and Beth Stephens.
He had a special bond with his Alldredge family, Tommy & Brenda, Rodney & Berta; nieces, Kelly, Cassidy, and Catrina; nephews, Jeff and Jesse, and an abundance of great nieces and nephews who all lovingly called “Uncle Him”.
He was known for his sense of humor and even temperament. He started working after moving to Birmingham while still in high school. He went door to door selling magazine subscriptions during the Civil Rights Era and thrived in a predominantly black area of Birmingham, Al as his sales territory. He was very successful and bought a car and “walking around money” for his pocket. He worked as a milkman, consuming his fill of orange juice on “accidental broken bottles”. He had the gift of leadership and sales, he progressed to photography supplies, cars, satellites, and self-employment of mobile home roofovers. One day he answered an ad for a job as a preneed sales agent with a large Birmingham cemetery. This was his calling. People “dying” to see him instead of knocking on doors. He became an area sales manager with a large funeral home and cemetery. Then he decided to buy a cemetery of his own. The last 19 years he has owned and operated Rainbow Memorial Gardens here in Gadsden. He worked until his health failed him in October of 2023 and was finally placed under Enhabit Hospice July 1, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to St Jude’s Hospital in his name would be greatly appreciated.
We wish to thank his hospice care givers, Peyton, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Marlie for helping Judy care for him at home.
